IMPAQ International, a rapidly growing and dynamic social policy research firm will be interviewing candidates at the 2018 ASSA Annual Meeting for the following positions:

  • Research Associates (recent and soon-to-be graduates);
  • Senior Research Associates 10+ years of relevant work experience); and
  • Principal Research Associates (15+ years of work experience).

IMPAQ’s mission is to bring together exceptional people to develop innovative and rigorous approaches to evaluate the real-world impact of social policies and programs. IMPAQ provides high-quality research and evaluation services, policy analysis, survey research, and technical assistance to U.S. and international government agencies, foundations, and the private sector.  IMPAQ provides these services in the flowing policy domains:  Health, Labor, Education, and International Development.  Some examples of our work includes:

  • Monitoring, evaluating and supporting the implementation of innovative care delivery and financing approaches intended to improve quality of care, patient satisfaction, and efficiency.
  • Developing consumer transparency tools and in delivering policy and operational compliance solutions in support of the health insurance market place.
  • Eliminating all cause harm to patients and improving patient and family care experiences.
  • Working on global projects that combat child labor, improve children’s literacy, drive economic growth, strengthen democracy and governance, develop workforce initiatives, and build M&E capacity and increase access to water and sanitation services.
  • Designing and conducting rigorous research and evaluations of workforce development, worker protection, employment training, and adult education programs at the national, state, and local levels.
  • Apply innovative methods to help agencies implement nutrition policy.
  • Prevent and detect the trafficking of SNAP benefits.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate work support programs that allow individuals to continue to work and provide for their families.
  • Designing and implementing research with the primary goal of developing actionable evidence on what works, particularly in the areas of effective school teaching and leadership, STEM, college and career readiness, extended learning, early childhood, and literacy.
  • Providing analytic technical assistance to the research and evaluation community with the goal of improving the quality and rigor of education program and policy evaluations.


  • Ph.D. (or other advanced degree) in economics, public policy, or a related social science field;
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative skills;
  • Experience conducting mixed-methods evaluation;
  • Experience and knowledge of experimental and quasi-experimental design;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical material orally and in writing to non-academic audiences; and
  • Previous internship or work experience conducting applied policy related research for federal or state agencies, although not required will be heavily weighted.
