The Data Scientist/ Python Developer will join our data science and mathematical statistics team in IMPAQ’s Social Programs Research group.  Incumbent will work with cross-functional research teams building, testing, and validating mathematical models; and apply a wide range of machine learning methods on projects for multiple clients in research organizations.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem solving skills and experience in quantitative data analysis, including statistical analysis, modeling, producing data visualizations, and translating of data analysis to report writing and presentations. 

 

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.  Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Use data science tools to manipulate and analyze large and unstructured data sets.
  • Use statistical methods and modeling to analyze and report data.
  • Develop algorithms to solve complex problems.
  • Communicate data through visualizations, stories, and high-level summaries that offer actionable insights.
  • Analyze data, summarize results and incorporate findings into reports tailored to client needs that include actionable recommendations (includes writing technical reports and making presentations to government clients).
  • Develop rigorous quality assurance approaches to validate methodological approach and results.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge and Experience

 

  • Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related quantitative field.
  • Demonstrable experience developing statistical data models and analytic solutions on big data projects involving unstructured data.
  • Proficiency in using Python to collect, analyze, manage and report data required.
  • Experience collecting, cleaning, analyzing, statistical modeling, and reporting using large and unstructured datasets.
  • Proficiency with data science tools including text analytics, topic modeling, sentiment analysis, classification, supervised and unsupervised learning methods, spatio-temporal forecasting, System Dynamics Models, Agent Based Models, and static and dynamic network models.
  • Familiar with data visualization techniques.
  • Familiar with machine learning, text analytics, and/or predictive modeling.
  • Project leadership experience.

 Skills

 

  • Demonstrable proficiency in Python, including Unit testing and Sentiment Analysis.
  • Experience developing in Unix and Windows environments and Full-Stack programming skills in Java, JavaScript and C# and open source applications like NodeJS, PHP and Django.
  • Experience in database design and working on multiple DB platforms including MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle.
  • Experience in API Creation and API Integration (Facebook, Mapbox, Foursquare); and creating intuitive GUI.
  • Experience with Web scrapping and Web/ Mobile Security.
  • Previous experience in both Agile/ Scrum and Waterfall software development methodologies.
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical material, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise strong attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills. Includes the ability to produce consistent, high-quality deliverables while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written is a must. Includes the ability to communicate complex technical material succinctly and accurately, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent people skills with a customer service oriented approach and a focus on building relationships with and integrating into project teams.
