    The Data Analyst - Medicare Claims will be a member of IMPAQ Health’s Advanced Analytics Division, supporting business and technical managers and providing expertise in the field of data science to assist CMS in implementing the Quality Payment Program (QPP).  The Data Scientist will be responsible for digesting the QPP program's cost measure policies and requirements, documenting the technical specifications, querying the Medicare claims data for the purpose of understanding the data structure and dependencies, assisting software engineers with implementation, and performing quality assurance on the output datasets.  The Data Scientist will work within a Scrum team in a fast-paced environment interacting and reporting to CMS stakeholders.    


    Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.  Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position.


    • Analyze technical documentation to break down the process
    • Develop algorithms to solve complex problems
    • Develop rigorous quality assurance approaches to validate methodological approach and results
    • Collecting, cleaning, analyzing, statistical modeling, and reporting using large and unstructured dataset using a querying language, such as Scala, Python, R, SAS and SQL
    • Communicate data through visualizations, stories, and high-level summaries that offer actionable insights
    • Analyze data, summarize results and incorporate findings into reports tailored to client needs that include actionable recommendations (includes writing technical reports and making presentations to government clients)
    • Manage the design and implementation phases of client-facing projects and report to multiple clients and stakeholders
    • Work independently and in a team setting, in an iterative project environment
    • Assist project managers with breakdown of project work into manageable tasks with estimates, accountable and independent execution of the tasks, with communication of status, technical risks and constraints to project leadership


    Education, Knowledge and Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree, Master’s preferred, in a quantitative field like Mathematics, Statistics or Economics, related field
    • 4+ years  
    • Experience using administrative claims data or health insurance claims data and topic areas such as Medicare, Medicaid, and other public health insurance programs
    • Proficiency in using SQL, SAS, Scala, R, and/or Python to collect, analyze, manage and report data required
    • Experience collecting, cleaning, analyzing, statistical modeling, and reporting using large and unstructured datasets
    • Experience with production code QA and automated testing
    • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
    • Familiar with data visualization techniques
    • Experience with software product projects, ideally managed by Agile/Scrum.



    • Skilled in all aspects of data processing management and quantitative analytics
    • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical material, both orally and in writing
    • Strong writing and editing skills
    • Ability to exercise strong attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills. Includes the ability to produce consistent, high-quality deliverables while meeting tight deadlines
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written is a must. Includes the ability to communicate complex technical material succinctly and accurately, both orally and in writing
    • Excellent people skills with a customer service oriented approach, and a focus on building relationships with the client and project team
    • Ability to work independently as well as with a team in a fast-paced environment. Includes the ability to be flexible to meet project priorities
