    The Data Scientist will be a member of IMPAQ Health’s Advanced Analytics Division, supporting business and technical managers and providing expertise in the field of data science to assist CMS in implementing the Quality Payment Program (QPP).  The Data Scientist will be responsible for digesting the QPP program's cost measure policies and requirements, documenting the technical specifications, querying the Medicare claims data for the purpose of understanding the data structure and dependencies, assisting software engineers with implementation, and performing quality assurance on the output datasets.  The Data Scientist will work within a Scrum team in a fast-paced environment interacting and reporting to CMS stakeholders.    


    Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.  Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position.


    • Identifying, collect, analyze, and maintain data to evaluate issues that support engineers
    • Designing and implement a comprehensive quality assurance plan, including scope and strategy
    • Assist in the management and monitoring of multiple tasks simultaneously to ensure goal attainment
    • Recommend, communicate, and implement solutions to identified problems/root cause of data issues.
    • Provide expertise and guidance to project team and decision makes as required
    • Communicate results of analysis to Project Manager and clients via reports/presentations


    Education, Knowledge and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Health Care-related field (such as public health, public policy, or other relevant areas), Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, Math, Statistics or other related field is required. Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in related field preferred
    • Four (4) or more years of experience in related field required
    • Possess and maintain a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of performance measures (ideally Medicare quality, cost, and utilization measures), including in-depth research of principles and methodologies
    • Experience working with and rigorously analyzing Medicare administrative claims data
    • Understanding of provider reimbursement methodologies, particularly in Medicare
    • Experience developing and analyzing risk adjustment of performance measures
    • Experience with quantitative analysis of data, interpretation of findings, and conducting logic QA / testing
    • Understand and apply statistical inference
    • Working knowledge of data languages such as SAS or SQL (nice to have: Scala/Java)
    • Strong knowledge and use of existing software packages (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc)
    • Strong communication skills are required to understand, interpret, and communicate ideas and present issues / solutions clearly
    • Strong analytical, organizational, planning and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to effectively interface with employees at all levels
