Summer Research Intern/ Health - Columbia, MD office

The Student Research Intern in the Health Division will support research teams in project management, project and evaluation design, quantitative and qualitative analyses and deliverable preparation in government health care programs.  This internship is located at our Columbia, MD office.


Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.  Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position



  • Conduct literature reviews and environmental scans on a variety of health policy topics, such as social determinants of health, health systems initiatives, value-based payment, or strategies to address chronic illness
  • Synthesize findings from reviews and provide substantive written content to support the production of blogs, white papers/briefs, or other publications
  • Analyze secondary data on topics such as social determinants of health using software, such as SAS, Stata, or R
  • Assist project staff with policy research related to state exchange marketplaces established under the Affordable Care Act
  • Assist with writing and proof-reading proposals and project reports


Education, Knowledge and Experience


Required Qualifications:

  • Highly prefer students that are currently enrolled in a graduate program (Masters/Ph.D) in public health, public policy, economics or related field; will consider students currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate (Bachelors) program
  • Some research experience in public health, public policy, economics or related fields
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to learn quickly, take direction and work independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some project management experience
  • Use creative, collaborative and consultative approaches to resolve issues
  • Some experience with research proposal and report preparation


  • Facility with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge or familiarity with analytic programs such SAS, STATA, or R; preferably a knowledge of how to use these programs to analyze large data sets
